Dr Rami Mukhtar of NICTA will present what the Big Data paradigm is and how it is fundamentally different to data warehousing, what problems are best solved in the warehouse, and what is best suited for a big data approach. Finally, he will present the key opportunities for Big Data to complement the warehouse.

Bio of Presenter

Dr Rami Mukhtar
Senior Researcher - National ICT Australia

Dr Rami Mukhtar founded and leads the Big Data Analytics project at NICTA. Established three years ago, the project applies NICTA's advanced machine learning research outcomes to drive business growth through leveraging enterprise data assets. Rami and his team work closely with enterprise to advise on, implement disruptive Big Data solutions to business problems, and to date have been successful in establishing and growing Big Data production platforms in some of Australia's largest enterprise. His team has also produced 'Scoobi', a popular open source technology for building Big Data applications on top of Hadoop. His personal interest is in creating new value propositions and business opportunities by inferring the latent truth hidden in data assets.
