You are cordially invited to listen to Mr. William H. Inmon, "The Father of Data Warehousing". Mr. Inmon, is a world-renowned expert, speaker and author on data warehousing. He is the creator of the Corporate Information Factory and more recently, of the Government Information Factory.

For years now, two environments have grown up side by side – the formal structured environment and the informal unstructured environment. For a variety of reasons textual data has not been a part of the corporate decision making experience. Now – for the first time – it is possible to read raw text, integrate it, and move it into the mainstream corporate decision making process.

In the first part of his presentation Mr. William H. Inmon will present DW 2.0, an architecture for the next generation of data warehousing. He will describe how some important new architectural concepts are intertwined – the life cycle of data within the data warehouse, the need to bring unstructured data into the data warehouse and integrate it with structured data, the need to tightly intertwine metadata with the warehouse, the need for an enterprise metadata repository – all these features are vitally important for the next generation of data warehousing.

Once a theory, today’s textual analytics is a reality, and corporations are discovering the value of using both structured and unstructured data as a basis for making important decisions. In order to make text fit for analytical processing it is necessary to edit, manipulate and transform the text. The second part of Mr. Inmon presentation will focus on how this transformation is done through technology called textual ETL. The presentation will conclude with a description of some of the ways that unstructured data can be used for sophisticated decision making after it has been integrated into a data warehouse.

Depuis des années maintenant deux environnements ont grandi côte à côte - l'environnement structuré formel et l'environnement non structuré informel. Pour diverses raisons les données textuelles n'ont pas fait partie du processus décisionnel des entreprises. Maintenant - pour la première fois - il est possible de lire le texte brut, de l'intégrer, et de l’incorporer dans le processus décisionnel des entreprises

Dans la première partie de son exposé, M. William H. Inmon , présentera DW 2.0, une architecture pour la prochaine génération d'entrepôts de données. Il décrira comment certains nouveaux concepts architecturaux importants sont indissociables - le cycle de vie des données au sein de l'entrepôt de données, la nécessité d’intégrer les données non structurées et les données structurées dans l'entrepôt, la nécessité d’étroitement lier les métadonnées et l'entrepôt de données, le besoin d'un référentiel de métadonnées d'entreprise - toutes ces caractéristiques sont d'une importance vitale pour la prochaine génération d'entrepôts de données.

Autrefois une théorie, l'analyse textuelle est aujourd'hui une réalité, et les entreprises découvrent la valeur de l'utilisation des données structurées et non structurées comme base pour prendre des décisions importantes. Afin d’intégrer le texte au traitement analytique, il est nécessaire de le modifier, de le manipuler et de le transformer. La deuxième partie de présentation de M. Inmon se concentrera sur la façon dont cette transformation s’effectue grâce à une technologie appelée « textual ETL ». La présentation se terminera par quelques exemples d’utilisation de données non structurées intégrées à l’entrepôt de donnés, pour une prise de décision sophistiquée.
