Secrets to BI Success – Cindi Howson

Abstract

Business Intelligence is helping visionary companies thrive in a tough economy and beat the competition. What is so different about their approach to BI and how can you apply these secrets to your own BI program? Based on research from the book Successful Business Intelligence: Secrets to Making BI a Killer App, this presentation highlights how and why BI has made a difference in visionary companies, yet floundered in others. Simply establishing a data warehouse and deploying BI tools is not enough. Success hinges on how the technology is deployed and on organizational aspects companies often fail to tackle such as the business-IT partnership. The “secrets” are based on exclusive surveys, as well as in-depth customer case studies. These insights and best practices will let you benchmark your BI deployment against the industry and help increase the impact BI has on your company’s performance.

Topics:

  • Cases of BI proving a competitive advantage at leading companies such as Dow Chemical, Continental Airlines, Emergency Medical Associates
  • State of the industry on BI success and the recession’s impact
  • Role of data integrity and real-time updates on BI success
  • Organizational issues that impede and foster greater business impact of business intelligence

Objectives:

  • Identify opportunities for BI in your line of business
  • Compare your line of business with the BI market for BI adoption, success, and business impact
  • Understand success factors and evaluate those items that can most facilitate BI being a competitive differentiator within your line of business and for J&J overall
  • Challenges in deploying these tools
