David Overcash“What is a Data Warehouse Appliance and why should we care?”
Abstract: As the volume and complexity of data skyrockets within enterprises large and small, it has become an ever increasing challenge for traditional DBMS platforms to keep up with the performance demands and user requests for analytical information. Whether it is customer, supplier, clickstream, financial or even geospatial data, the payback when highly granular data can be explored in dynamic and insightful ways, brings significant value to decision makers throughout the organization. In response to this need, a new generation of Data Warehouse technology companies has stepped up with innovative hardware/software solutions that are highly tuned to deliver analytical information at price performance levels never seen before outside test labs.
In this session, David Overcash, CTO for Brightlight Consulting (a consultancy 100% dedicated to business intelligence and data warehousing), will share the history of the Data Warehouse Appliance (DWA) and how it has quickly become one of the key technologies that is advancing the innovative use of Business Intelligence in the world today. David is respected throughout the BI industry for his experience and knowledge with DWA’s and how they best succeed. He has worked within the DWA industry throughout the past 6 years and has worked directly with all the major DWA players and thought leaders. He’ll illustrate how and where DWA’s are being utilized with real-world examples and when enterprises should and should not think about DWA’s as an alternative to traditional DBMS environments.
